Why do the majority of affiliates never even make a single check?

Now, ask me if I have any knowledge or interest in web design? Ummmm, the answer would be a resounding "No". I don’t even know what html code looks like (except for the two colors I use on my site and aligning text. Anything else would be complete gibberish to me.
